Una organización que tiene su base en el Reino Unido, pero que agrupa a locales de discos norteamericanos también, elaboró una lista con la mejor música del 2016. Se trata de una organización que tiene su origen en 1976.
Para entender la importancia de esta organización que agrupa tiendas muy relevantes para el rock en inglés, es preciso repasar brevemente su historia. La primera tienda nació en 1976 en Londres y en 1978 comenzó a trabajar como sello discográfico, teniendo entre sus figuras a grupos como The Smiths o The Libertines. Ya en los 90, la marca migró a los EE.UU. manteniendo su base europea, y abrió disquerías en San Francisco, Tokio y París.
En 1990, el local estadounidense fue sede de un concierto de Nirvana. Pero en los 2000, la s plataformas y la venta digital hicieron que muchas tiendas cerraran y los abligó a mudarse al espacio virtual. Después de abrir en New York hace algunos años, la marca edita también una revista.
El conglomerado de 'disqueros' votó para definir cuáles fueron los lanzamientos más sorprendentes y resonantes en este 2016, y entre los primeros brillaron tanto Iggy Pop, como el disco final de David Bowie.
